Experiencing College Life in Bangalore!

My first day in Bangalore is still vivid in my mind. I was unpacking my stuff in my newly allotted hostel room, feeling nervous but excited at the same time. This was my first time in the city of Bangalore as well. Moving from a small town to a cosmopolitan city felt nice. After setting up the room,I felt I’d made a place for myself in the city. It took a couple of hours, though, after a long journey, which didn’t tire me. It felt like the city was pulling me towards it.

I always had that thirst to do a little more than my academics. I wanted to be in a place filled with techies, founders, entrepreneurs, thinkers (ya, I mean it), and the list never ends-as it would help me to explore. Having a diverse social circle was something I sought out.

During COVID, I taught myself web development. To be honest, I only learned web programming because I wanted to be able to collaborate with others and build networks outside of college. You really don’t know what kind of connections you’ll be making outside of college, especially in a city like Bangalore. You’ll find lots of highly successful entrepreneurs here(as Bombay has actors). I feel networking is highly underrated. With one new person you meet, you talk, share your story, and if they have something different to offer, it unfolds a different part of your brain. It helps you as a person, and later that new friend introduces you to his friends. As a result, your network expands. OK, I will tell you how I got my first internship!

I was travelling in the metro(which here they proudly call “namma metro”). A guy was sitting next to me talking with his friend in Konkani (a language similar to Marathi). I got so excited and assumed he was speaking Marathi(as I’m Maharastrian). We started talking. Later, he tells me he works for a startup as a web developer, and they are hiring interns. I immediately replied, “I’m a web developer.” He connected me to the CTO of his startup, and later I cleared an interview and got an internship. Me and that guy(Sharmad) are good friends now, though he is 27. Sometimes I do feel, “What is for me will come for me; I just need to keep going.” It was so random of me going into the metro that day, Sharmad sitting next to me, our conversation, etc. You never know in what form an opportunity will come to you, so JUST BE READY! While I was there, I was able to work on some amazing projects, give presentations, and meet a lot of interesting people. That startup was like my second home in Bangalore. I learnt more in those six months at that startup than I would have in two years working on my own. This is what Bangalore offers you. I’m now working as a junior blockchain developer for an edtech startup. Yeah, again-NEW PEOPLE!

Uh! Too much hustling! It’s true that you can’t be productive all the time and you shouldn’t be. We are not machines. We need our own personal time and to have fun. The number of pubs in Bangalore, which has the biggest concentration in Asia, means I’ll never run out of places to go. This city also offers a great social life, and if you are not the social type, there are numerous treks nearby to enjoy on your own time. I am a combination of both, lol. This city will always have something for you.

SO CHILL!

I like my life in Bangalore. Everyday is new and interesting. I study at BMSCE Bangalore. The campus is too small, but I know the whole of Bangalore is my campus.

See you on the next blog. Feel free to reach out to me! (new connection, hahaha)

bye.
